I think most of these website owned by a single person. He took few bookmarking job and shows you backlinks. after that he just shut down his server which hosted all these bookmarking websites.
Moral of the Story: why people waste money on bookmarking, article submission, blog commenting. all those are history after panda update. penguin update is upgrade version of panda. they modify their algorithm of panda and thats call penguin. penguin and panda do all the same just use different algorithm.
